Frequently Asked Questions - Tasting Room

Q: What are your hours? 

A: Noon to sunset

Q: What is the cost of a wine tasting?

A: $14.00 pp plus tax for groups of 9 or less and $20.00 pp for groups of 10 or more plus tax and 18% gratuity

Q: Do I need a reservation for a wine tasting?

A: Reservations are recommended for groups larger than 4.

Q: Do you offer seated tastings or are they at the wine bar?

A:  We offer seated tastings.

Q:  May we bring/eat our own food?

A:  Food from home is permitted in the outdoor areas

Q: What type of food do you offer for sale?

A:  Light fare, cheese, salami, crackers and truffles. We also offer our cuts of our Charolais beef to take home.

Q: Am I allowed to bring outside alcohol?

A:  No outside alcohol is permitted on the property.

Q:  Do you offer non-alcoholic beverages?

A:  Bottled water

Q: Are you kids friendly?

A:  Yes, at the tasting room

Q: May we bring our dogs?

A:  Dogs on a leash are permitted in the outside area

Q: Do you offer guided tours and other offerings?

A:  Yes, we offer an in depth tour at 11am and 3pm that you can reserve through our website

Q:  Is smoking allowed?

A:  Only in permitted areas on the lawn

Q: Do you allow limo’s or buses?

A:  Yes, we ask that you phone ahead to notify us of your arrival

Q: Is the Tasting Room handicap accessible?

A:  Yes

Q: What are your requirements to join the Wine Club?

The Wine Club at Greenhill Winery & Vineyards requires members to purchase 12  bottles of wine per  year. 

Q: What type of memberships do you offer?

The membership options are as follows: Annual Membership (12  bottles,  1x/year), Quarterly Membership (3  bottles,  4x/year), and Bimonthly Membership (two  bottles,  6x/year).

Q: Do you have a separate space or building for members?

The Manor House is an exclusive space for members and their guests.

Q: What kind of perks do we get when becoming a Wine Club Member?

The following special benefits are associated with Greenhill’s Wine Club Membership: complimentary tastings for up to four guests, Manor House rental for private events, complimentary concierge services for your wine country getaway, priority reservations for tastings at the Manor House, a 15% savings on all of our handcrafted wines, invitations  to intimate wine release  parties,  and other  special  events  and parties.

Q: Can I bring guests to the Manor House?

Yes. Wine Club Members are welcome to bring guests. For groups of 4 or more, reservations are required.

Q: Do I need to make a reservation and how do I accomplish this?

Reservations are strongly encouraged. They can be made online at www.greenhillvineyards.com/reservations.

Q: Do my guests get complimentary tastings?

As a member of Greenhill’s Wine Club, you are entitled to complimentary tastings for you and one guest (two tastings). However a reservation entitles you to complimentary tastings for you and three guests (a total of four tastings).

Q: Do you offer anything else besides tastings?

In addition to tastings, we offer glass and bottle service, and a variety of food selections (see below). 

Q: What is the cost of tastings?

Tastings are $14.00 pp plus tax.

Q: Is the Manor House pet and family friendly?

The Manor House is reserved for adults only (21 years and older). Animals are not allowed inside the Manor House. Pets are permitted outside, but must remain on a leash at all times. Pet waste must be picked up and disposed of properly.

Q: Can we bring food?

Picnics are permitted, but must be consumed outside. The Manor House has a picnic table and a variety of tables and chairs by the lake and on the patio.

Q: What food do you offer?

We offer a variety of cheeses, crackers, charcuterie, fruit spreads, and baguettes.

Q: Is there a Kitchen to heat up food in?

Yes. The Manor House has a kitchen with an oven and microwave. If food needs to be heated up, please speak with a Tasting Associate.

Q: Can we request the use of a room for our tastings?

Yes. When making a reservation, please specify which room you’d prefer for your tasting.

Q: Can we rent a room or the entire Manor for a private event?

Yes. Greenhill Wine Club Members interested in hosting a “private event” and renting a room or the entire Manor House for an “exclusive use” must contact Jennifer@greenhillvineyards.com for availability and pricing. See below for details on booking a private event at the Manor House.

Q: Can we fish in the lake after our tastings?

No, there is no public fishing allowed.

Frequently Asked Questions - Event Venues

Q: What are your rental options for corporate, weddings and social events?

A: We currently rent out our historic Manor House, Tasting Room, Le Chai Room (Tank) and our Barrel Room. All our venues are available for 5-hour or 8-hour time frame. Individual rooms in the historic Manor House may be rented and command a 2-hour min for groups with less than 25 guests. Staffing, event coordination fees, wine, sales tax and service fees are not included in the venue or room rental cost. Please refer to our brochure for more information along with visiting the events section of our website under, “Our Spaces” for descriptions of our available venues. The Tasting Room can only be rented after we close for normal business hours, which is sunset all year long.


Q: If we need more than 8 hours for our event, can the rental time be extended?

A: Yes, additional time can be purchased by the hour; the price will be prorated based on the specific venue being rented. If you believe you will need extra time, consult with our Events Manager about incorporating it into your contract.

 

Q: How do we reserve a date?

 

A: We require a signed contract, along with a deposit of ½ of the total contracted fee within 5 days of contract creation. The remaining balance and security deposit will be due three weeks prior to the event date. The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. For hourly room rentals, a signed contract and payment in full is required within 5 days of contract creation.

 

Q: How much time is allowed for set-up and clean-up?

 

A: Set-up and breakdown time is built into the venue rental time. For example, if the venue rental is from 12 noon until 8pm, set-up may begin at 12 noon, and breakdown should be completed by 8pm. When using a tent, set-up is permitted before the rental period begins, but our Events Manager must approve this prior to contract signing. Tents must be removed no later than 10 am the morning following the event. 

 

Q: What kind of decorations can we use for our event?

 

Decorations such as flowers, table decorations, and lighting are permitted. We do not allow anything to be applied to the walls or building that will cause damage. Candles are allowed as long as they are contained. Open flames are not permitted.

 

Q: Are dogs permitted at my event?

 

A: Animals are not allowed inside any of the buildings. Pets are permitted outside, but must remain on a leash at all times. Pet waste must be picked up and disposed of properly.

 

Q: Is there adequate space in the parking lot for my event?

 

A: Yes. The parking at the Manor House can accommodate about 50 cars. Overflow parking is available at the Tasting Room. Contracted party is responsible for providing guests with any necessary shuttle services. If your event is located in the Barrel Room, Le Chai Room, or Tasting Room, ample space is available in the Tasting Room parking lot.

 

 

Q: What type of music is permitted?

 

A: Everything from DJ's to full bands are permitted. Amplified music is restricted to the inside spaces and must conclude by 11:00 pm.

 

Q: Can we extend our event past 11pm?

 

A: Yes. An additional hour can be purchased for $2,500. The event must conclude by 12 midnight, and all breakdown must be completed by 12:30am. If breakdown cannot be completed by 12:30am, it must be finished the following morning. The fee for wine associates will be increased to $50/hr during that time period.

 

Q: Can you recommend local caterers, photographers, and floral designers?

 

A: Yes. Our preferred vendor list can be found on our website in the Events section under the “Resources” tab.

 

Q. Do you allow caterer’s not listed on your preferred vendor list?

 

A: Yes. We recommend using the caterer’s on our list as they are familiar with the set-up and venues, however, you are allowed to use a caterer of your choice.

 

Q: Is there a separate caterer’s kitchen that my caterer could use?

 

A: In the Manor House, caterers may have access to our cellar for food preparation and storage. In our new Tasting Room, there will be a separate caterer’s kitchen with convenient access to all venues.

 

Q: Are there private restroom facilities for each specific venue rented?

 

A: Yes. There are three bathrooms in the Manor House: one half bath on the first floor and two full bathrooms on the second floor. There are private restroom facilities located in the Tasting Room, and another set in the Le Chai Room.

 

Q: Are tents included in your pricing?

 

A: No. We own a 32’ x 16’ tent (capacity 25 people) that can be rented for $200 per hour (2-hour minimum). Any other tents must be rented from a separate vendor. 

 

Q: Are tables, chairs, and linens included in the rental package?

 

A: No.  The contracted party can use one of our approved vendors.

 

Q: Are there any other items available to rent?

 

A: Single wine barrels may be rented for $25 each, and our double wine barrel bar may be rented for $50. Edison lights may be rented for the Lakefront Patio, price available upon request.

 

Q: Do we need to hire a day-of coordinator?

 

A: Yes/No. We require that the contracted party hire a day-of-coordinator for events over 50 guests. The winery can provide this service for $750.00 in which one of the winery Event Managers will ensure that the timelines of your event run smoothly. The contracted party may also hire their own. This person may not be in the wedding party or in the corporate event.

 

Q: Are there any service fees and event coordination fees?

 

A: Yes. For large venue rentals there is a $75 service/administrative fee and for room rentals in the Manor House there is a $35 service/administrative fee. The fee for event coordination is as follows; for large venue rentals there is a minimum of a $250 fee, and for room rentals in the Manor House there is a minimum fee of $50. This fee is subject to change depending on the scope and complexity of the event.

 

Q: Can we bring outside alcohol to our event?

 

A: Yes, only with a valid ABC license. Outside beer and liquor may be served when the contracted party obtains a current off-site banquet license through the VA ABC. No outside wine is permitted, only Greenhill wine can be served.

 

Q: Do you have a wine purchase minimum?

 

A: Yes. For every 25 guests, there is a one case (12 bottles) minimum.

 

Q: Is smoking allowed?

 

A: Smoking is not permitted inside any of the winery buildings. However, smoking is allowed in designated outdoor areas that are at least 25 ft away from any winery buildings.

 

Q: What is the maximum number of guests you can accommodate in the different venues?

 

A: In the Tasting Room, we can accommodate up to 110 guests. The Barrel Room can easily accommodate up to 100 guests seated, and the Le Chai Room can accommodate up to 50 guests seated. The historic Manor House can accommodate 60 guests inside, and 100 when using the Lakefront Patio and/or surrounding green spaces. Please note that the Tasting Room can only be rented out once we close for business. Closing time is sunset year-round.

 

Q: Can I hold my wedding ceremony on the property?

 

A: Yes. We have many beautiful sites to choose from including the Tasting Room Lawn, the Lakefront at the Manor, and an indoor space, The Barrel Room.

 

 

Q: Are children allowed at the Manor House or any of the other venues?

 

A: The Manor House is reserved for adults only (21 years and older), except when the entire Manor House is rented for a complete buy-out (5hr and 8hr rental), children of all ages are permitted, but must be supervised by an adult throughout the duration of the event. No lake access is permitted. No children under the age of 21 are permitted for private room rentals in the house when open to other wine club members.
